Airport Delays

Ground delay programmes, arrival and departure holds and closures, as the FAA reports them. The FAA keeps no history of this, so each reading here is a sample kept — which is what makes the pattern visible rather than only the moment.

Source: the FAA's national airspace status feed. A ground delay programme holds aircraft at their origin because the destination cannot take them, and is the one that costs an airline money. Closures are usually a restriction on general aviation rather than a hub shutting, so they carry no duration. The reason is quoted as the FAA writes it.
