Terms of Service

These terms cover your use of carbonthat. By using the site you agree to them.

What the service is

carbonthat collects public congressional financial disclosures, presents them alongside committee assignments and recorded votes, and offers tools for exploring them. It is provided free of charge, and may change or stop at any time.

It is not investment advice and must not be used as the sole basis for a financial decision. The disclaimer forms part of these terms.

Your account

An account is optional — most of the site works without one. If you create one:

  • Give an email address you control. Some features stay closed until it is confirmed.
  • Keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
  • Invite people you actually know. Invitations are for sharing the site, not for sending unsolicited mail.
  • Tell us at support@carbonthat.com if you think someone else has got into your account.

You can stop using the account whenever you like, and ask us to delete it. We may close an account that breaks these terms.

Acceptable use

Please do not:

  • scrape or automate against the site in a way that degrades it for other people;
  • try to break, probe, or get around the security of the site or its accounts;
  • use the site to harass anyone, including the public officials named in it;
  • present the data here as official, or as endorsed by any government body;
  • break the law with it.

The data

The underlying disclosures, committee assignments and vote records are public records and are not ours to own. How this site collects, corrects, arranges and presents them — along with the software, design and written pages — belongs to carbonthat.

Quote it, cite it, write about it. If you republish a figure from here, attribute it and link back, so a reader can check it against the original filing.

No warranty, and what we are liable for

The site is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied — including accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, and uninterrupted availability.

To the fullest extent the law allows, carbonthat is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss — financial or otherwise — arising from your use of the site or reliance on anything in it. Trading decisions are yours.

Changes

These terms may change. The date above says when they last did. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept it. If a change is significant and you have an account, we will tell you.
