Reporting a data error
These are the most useful messages we get, and the ones we act on fastest. Filings are read by machine, and a machine reading a scanned PDF gets things wrong. So does matching a handwritten name to a sitting member.
To make a correction quick to verify, include what you can:
- The page you were looking at — the URL is enough.
- The member, and the date of the filing or trade.
- What the page says, and what the filing actually says. A link to the original document settles it immediately.
Everything else
- Questions about where a number came from, or how something is calculated.
- Press — say what you are working on and your deadline.
- Account problems — a confirmation email that never arrived, or an invite that will not open. Write from the address the account uses if you can.
Before you write
If the question is what the data covers or where it comes from, About probably answers it. If it is why a figure looks too good, the disclaimer almost certainly does.
